Marko’s Monastery stands in the village of Markova Sušica, about 18 km south of central Skopje. Its church of St Demetrius was completed in the 14th century in the time of King Marko, whose portrait appears above the south entrance, and its frescoes are among the most elaborate of their age. Our advice: combine with Matka Canyon for a day of frescoes and gorges; dress modestly.
