About Kale Fortress
Kale has guarded Skopje since early Byzantine times; most of the walls visible today date from the 10th–11th centuries and later, with Ottoman additions. Walk the restored ramparts for the best view over the Vardar, the Old Bazaar and Vodno, especially at sunset. Opening hours change with the seasons.
