A hire car makes it easy to reach Matka, Mavrovo, Ohrid via the mountains, Bitola and the Tikveš wineries. Motorways have tolls, mountain roads are winding, and winter tyres are needed in winter. To cross a border you need the rental company’s permission and green card insurance.
